Don Rickles (1926-2017)
The old days were the old days. And they were great days. But now is now.
Bill Hicks (1961-1994)
Life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves.
Don Rickles was a master of his comedic craft, but he was also known for his kindness and caring attitude. He and fellow comedian and actor, Bob Newhart, were best friends.
Bill Hicks’ comedy frequently used satire with topics from philosophy, politics, and religion. His life was sadly shortened by pancreatic cancer.
Don Rickles was definitely a master.

I think that comedians have a lot of insight and wisdom into humanity. That is what makes them connect well with their audience and become memorable comedians.

Vickie, thanks for reading and sharing a wonderful perspective. I’ve also discovered that comedians sometimes make pretty good dramatic actors.

I never was fond of Don Rickles, but I certainly appreciate his viewpoint here!

I agree Linda about Rickles’ humor. Some people love it, others definitely don’t. It is refreshing to find a tender thought hidden under his tough comedic skin.

Many years ago I was invited to Don and Barbara Rickles home for Rosh Hashanah! It was a massive event and full of A-list Hollywood celebrities. As soon as I walked in the door Don made an announcement that I was Italian and introduced me to every Italian. He was able to be cruel and make you laugh at the same time.
