I was reading yesterday about how God was with His people as “a cloud of unknowing” – while they stumbled around in the wilderness. They didn’t know where they were going, or what the future held, but they knew that God was there with them, at that chaotic time. And, really, that is all they (and we) really need.

That last quote shows loneliness as a state of mind is not based upon people around us per se

I agree with your impression. The “real” people in our inner circle fill us with love and life. My father turns 85 today, and he appreciates the friends in his life.
