Monday Memories: Without Faith

Joel R. Beeke Quote

We put on God by putting on His armor.  Christ himself wore and made the armor, and the Holy Spirit fits it to us and makes it ours.

From Ephesians 6:10-12:  “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His power; put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil, for our struggle is not against blood and flesh but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

Joel R. Beeke (born 1952) is an American pastor and Christian theologian.

Fueling Spiritual Needs

Selwyn Hughes Quote

Those who accept Scripture’s teaching concerning God must be prepared to say that He is not only personal, but that He is a plurality of Persons–a Trinity.

From Matthew3:16-17:  “And when Jesus had been baptized, just as He came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to Him and He saw God’s Spirit descending like a dove and alighting on Him.  And a voice from the heavens said, ‘This is My Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.'”

Selwyn Hughes (1928-2006) was a Welsh-born Christian minister and author.  One of his best known works was the daily devotional EVERY DAY WITH JESUS.

God’s Tripod

From 2 Corinthians 13:13:  “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.”

Searching for God’s Kingdom

Life held back, born of flesh

Restrained by sinful chains

Spirit comes to refresh

Earthbound, God’s grace arrives

Breathing as Son of Man

Eternity opens

Laying out divine plan

Being born from above

God’s Word descends with Light

Son’s faith, unselfish love

Spirit’s mercy takes flight

Believing in Savior

Accepting grace of God

Spirit’s destiny breathes

Trinity, God’s tripod

From Matthew 28:19-20:  “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.  And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Grace Leading

From Matthew 5:13-14:  “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored?  It is no longer good for anything but is thrown out and trampled under foot.  You are the light of the world.  A city built on a hill cannot be hid.”

Life’s human experience

Never-ending shortcomings

Darkness follows every step

Hearing its constant drumming

God’s Word shatters evil’s myth

Called to His righteous standing

Light shines with divine goodness

Offering safest landing

God’s eternal promises

Resurrection defines hope

Faith growing, following Christ

Scaling each slippery slope

God’s faithfulness never tires

Jesus fulfilling His law

Holy Spirit reaches out

Teaching, transforming life’s flaws

Kingdom of Heaven beckons

Earthly journey will be hard

Grace leading, trusting each day

Laying bricks toward God’s courtyard

From Matthew 5:19:  “Therefore, whoever break one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
