Jackie Pullinger Quote

God wants us to have soft hearts and hard feet.  The trouble with so many of us is that we have hard hearts and soft feet.

From Psalm 51:10-12:  “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your holy spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.”

Jackie Pullinger (born 1944) is a British missionary in Hong Kong.  Her efforts founded the St. Stephen’s Society in 1981, which provides a rehabilitation home for recovering drug addicts, prostitutes, and gang members.

Faith makes the discords of the present the harmonies of the future.

From Jeremiah 29:11:  “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”

Robert Collyer (1823-1912) was an English-born pastor.  Early in his adult life, he emigrated to the United States and would later resuming preaching after having done so in England.

Overflowing with Joy (Third Sunday of Advent)

From Philippians 4:4-5:  “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.  Let your gentleness be known to everyone.  The Lord is near.”

Waiting hope, in darkness

World absent of peace

When will joy truly arrive?

Faith’s brokenness must cease

Trusting God without fear

His comfort coming

Joy draws salvation’s water

Messiah forthcoming

Leading to Bethlehem

Hope shall be restored

Peace overflowing with joy

Heaven’s angels onboard

Praising with humble hearts

God’s gentleness seeks

Joy’s rejoicing voices sing

Shepherd’s emotions speak

Proclaiming hope’s presence

Repentance brings peace

Faith’s witness fills lungs with joy

Love opens heaven’s lease

From Isaiah 12:5-6:  “Sing praises to the Lord, for He has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth.  Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”

An Advent hymn accompanies this poem, “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen.”  This traditional English carol was first discovered in an anonymous manuscript in the 1650s.

Directing Our Best

From Psalm 118:1:  “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever!”

Giving thanks, praising Father

His enduring, steadfast love

Faith today, hope tomorrow

Embracing grace from above

Kneeling in daily prayer

Father listens with patience

Faith today, hope tomorrow

Transforming our impatience

Taking refuge with Father

His righteousness leads forthwith

Faith today, hope tomorrow

Overcoming evil’s myth

Surrounding witness of light

Father blazes road ahead

Faith today, hope tomorrow

Nourishing with daily bread

Grasping wisdom of Father

Skies no longer full of gray

Faith today, hope tomorrow

Directing our best, His way

Father’s Caring Breath

From 1 Peter 5:6-7:  “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

Our world will sometimes

Turn upside down

Filled with anxiety

Peace faces meltdown

Life’s heavy anchors

Worry weighs down

Sinking ever deeper

Hope lifts at sundown

Father sees darkness

Brings forth His grace

Therefore, humble ourselves

Peace comes to embrace

Father’s mercy beams

Light’s bold outlook

Always caring for us

Hope’s warming chinook

Father’s caring breath

Calls us to cast

Every despondent thought

Faith always steadfast

From Psalm 94:19:  “When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul.”

God personally cares about the things that worry us.  You are His personal concern.  He cares about those aching thoughts that are like heavy anchors dragging you down.

From 1 Peter 5:6-7:  “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Common Ground

From Matthew 5:1:  “When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up the mountain, and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.  And He began to speak and taught them.”

Father’s Word becomes flesh

Now living among man

Gentleness of potter’s hands

Fulfilling promised plan

Truth found in Savior’s voice

Faithfulness, heaven bound

United as one Body

Traversing common ground

Touched by Messiah’s grace

Forgiveness now descends

Chains of sin breaking away

Finding hope, darkness ends

Christ’s lesson plans share love

Hillside offers classroom

“Sermon on the Mount” teaches

Sowing faith, seeds shall bloom

Rock of Ages, Jesus Christ

His peace shall never end

Always with man in spirit

Blessing each knee to bend
