Defining Contributions

From Galatians 5:13-14:  “For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters, only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become enslaved to one another.  For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Leo Tolstoy Quote

Once we’re thrown off our habitual paths, we think all is lost, but it’s only here that the new and the good begins.

If you feel pain, you’re alive.  If you feel another’s pain, you’re a human being.

Leo (Count Lev Nikolayevich) Tolstoy (1828-1910) was a Russian writer.  Many consider him to be one the world’s greatest authors of all-time.

The road will never swallow you.  The river of destiny will always overcome evil.

This is what you must be like.  Grow wherever life puts you down.

Ben Okri (born 1959) is a Nigerian-born poet and novelist.  Much of his writing focuses on African post-modern and post-colonial traditions.

Harmony’s Distant Shore

From creation’s seed

Everything begins

Breathing to succeed

Swimming without fins

Morning sunrise greets

Another new day

Counting each receipt

Smelling fresh bouquets

River’s constant flow

Life’s boldest highway

Playing sweet banjo

Sketching without gray

Life’s destination

Over one more ridge

Bringing elation

Crossing final bridge

Harmony sings out

Verses sharing more

Changing today’s route

Reaching distant shore

Rendezvous

Photo by McClain Crigger on Pexels.com

From creation’s headwaters

River’s energy never rests

Hearing mountainous echoes

Ready for nature’s big test

Faithful as morning’s sunrise

River’s journey covers distance

Navigating every mile

Ready to lead with persistence

Nature salutes steady flow

River’s majesty looks ahead

Following distant landmarks

Ready to search for beachhead

Goal set by master’s vision

River’s eyes searching oceans blue

Wrapping up eternal trip

Ready for its rendezvous

Mission now accomplished

River’s destiny all complete

Blessing past, present, and future

Ready with lasting heartbeat

Destiny Calling

Mighty Yellowstone

Accepting her role

Endless, flowing river

Onward journey, its goal

Creation’s design

Starting near Yount Peak

In and out of mountains

Deepest canyon she seeks

Marked with persistence

Tumbling over falls

Upper, Lower, Tower

Energy never stalls

Currents running free

Leaving her alone

Man forsakes building dams

Nature’s free-flowing zone

Destiny calling

Joining up as one

Big Muddy’s faithful mate

Yellowstone’s cherished run

During its 692 mile journey, the Yellowstone River journeys from the depths of Wyoming’s Absaroka Mountains and Yellowstone National Park into Montana.  Upon merging with the Missouri River just across the North Dakota border, these two mighty rivers become one.  The confluence is located near Ft. Buford and Ft. Union historic sites.

Treasures as Friends

This poem was inspired by Lisa’s post where she shares a series of brilliant and encouraging quotes about friendship.  Take a moment and visit her post at The Road Back to Life.

Destiny unites true friends

Transforming life with its spark

Sincere friendship fills two hearts

Never alone in the dark

Never take friends for granted

Honesty, laughter, and tears

Staying connected insures

Treasures shared over the years

Sharing life’s pain, healing wounds

Long-lasting friendship endures

Glue holding life together

Truly caring, reassures

Always count on each other

Offering silent support

“Forever minutes” share love

Caring never falling short

Life travels through forest trails

Friends together, all these years

Brings us home through darkest times

Greatest love when friendship cheers

From Proverbs 18:24:  “Some friends play at friendship but a true friend sticks closer than one’s nearest kin.”
