Appreciation, applause, approval, respect–we all love it.

The greatest difficulty in the world is not for people to accept new ideas, but to make them forget old ideas.

Tom Peters (born 1942) is an American writer.  Much of his work deals with business management practices.

Robert Frost Quotes

Always fall in with what you’re asked to accept.  Take what is given, and make it over your way.

There are tones of voices that mean more than words.

Robert Frost (1874-1963) was an American poet.  He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry four times (only poet to be so honored).  Much of his poetry used rural settings from early 20th century New England.

Thornton Wilder Quotes

I not only bow to the inevitable; I am fortified by it.

The stuff of which masterpieces are made drifts about the world waiting to be clothed in words.

Thornton Wilder (1897-1975) was an American playwright and novelist.  His gifted words earned three Pulitzer Prizes for Drama and Fiction.

Oswald Chambers Quote

Pray now; draw on the grace of God in the moment of need.

From 2 Corinthians 6:1:  “As we work together with Him, we entreat you also not to accept the grace of God in vain.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

John Owen Quote

Before the work of grace the heart is “stony.”  It can do no more than a stone can do to please God.

From Hebrews 4:16:  “Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

John Owen (1616-1683) was an English Puritan church leader and theologian.

Oswald Chambers Quote

The reception of the Holy Spirit is the maintained attitude of the believer.  When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive quickening life from the ascended Lord.

From Luke 24:49:  “And see, I am sending upon you what My Father promised, so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Pilgrim’s Journey

From 1 Thessalonians 3:11-12:  “Now may our God and Father Himself and our Lord Jesus direct our way to you.  And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for You.”

From 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10:  “For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live with Him.”

If you will give God your right to yourself, He will make a holy experiment out of you.  God’s experiments always succeed.

From Romans 12:1-2:  “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God’s mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship.  Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
