To reach a child’s mind a teacher must capture his heart.  Only if a child feels right can he think right.

Often an ounce of humor is worth a ton of words.

Haim Ginott (1922-1973) was an Israeli-born school teacher and child psychologist.  He pioneered techniques about how to converse with children.

Faith is not to get you out of a hard place but to change your heart in the hard place.

From Ezekiel 36:26:  “A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you, and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

David Wilkerson (1931-2011) was an American evangelist, Christian author, and pastor.

If you want to be happy for life, love what you do.

Happiness is like mercury.  Hard to hold, and when we drop it, it shatters into a million pieces.  Maybe the bravest of all are those who have the courage to reach for it again.

Mary Higgins Clark (1927-2020) was an American writer of suspense novels.

The common response to trials is resistance, if not outright resentment.  How much better that we open the doors of our hearts and welcome the God-ordained trials as honored guests for the good they do in our lives.

From 1 Peter 1:6-7:  “In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

Charles Swindoll (born 1934) is an American pastor and Christian author.

Friendship is a golden chain, the links are friends so dear.

Helen Steiner Rice (1900-1981) was an American writer who specialized in Christian and inspirational poetry.

Mark Twain Quotes

The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug.

When you catch an adjective, kill it.  No, I don’t mean utterly, but kill most of them–then the rest will be valuable.  They weaken when they are close together.  They give strength when they are far apart.

Mark Twain (1835-1910) was an American author and humorist.  He has often been praised as one of America’s greatest humorists, and American writer William Faulkner called him “the father of American Literature.”

If you are in the midst of a trial right now, choose to walk by faith.  Choose to “count it all joy.”

From 2 Corinthians 4:17:  “For our slight, momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure.”

David Jeremiah (born 1941) is an American pastor and Christian author.

Martha McSally Quotes

It’s hard to hate up close.  The more you get to know each other, the more common ground you can find and the more you can disagree without being disagreeable.

If we want the most effective fighting force, we need to pick the most qualified capable man for the job, even if it’s a woman.

Martha McSally (born 1966) is a native of the state of Rhode Island (born in Warwick). She graduates from the United States Air Force Academy in 1988.  Later, she becomes the first American woman to fly combat missions, and she serves in the Air Force for 26 years.

The dearest friend on earth is a mere shadow compared to Jesus Christ.

From John 15:15:  “I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing, but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

David Baldacci Quotes

Love is like a good piece of wood:  It just gets stronger and stronger as the years go by.

It’s not the beginning or the destination that counts.  It’s the ride in between.

[Both quotes taken from The Christmas Train.]

David Baldacci (born 1960) is an American novelist.
