When we are young, change is a treat, but as we grow older, change becomes a threat.  But when Jesus Christ is in control of your life, you need never fear change.

From Matthew 6:34:  “So, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own.  Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Be such a man, and live such a life, that if every man were such as you, and every life a life like yours, this earth would be God’s paradise.

From Philippians 2:4:  “Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.”

Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.

From 1 Peter 5:6-7:  “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

There are times when to speak is to violate the moment–when silence represents the highest respect.  The word for such times is reverence.

From Psalm 46:10:  “Be still, and know that I am God!  I am exalted in the earth.”

The Bible is a Christian’s guidebook, and I believe the knowledge it sheds on pain and suffering is the great antidote to fear for suffering people.  Knowledge can dissolve fear as light destroys darkness.

From 2 Timothy 3:16-17:  “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

During my days of deepest grief, in all of my shock, sorrow, and struggle, I sat at the feet of God.  I literally spent hours each day reading God’s Word, meditating on Scripture, and praying.  I intentionally spent a significant amount of time being still before God.

From Psalm 23:1-4:  “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.  He leads me in right paths for His name’s sake.  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff–they comfort me.”

newtestament book

I love the melodies in the Old Testament, how preachers highlight them when they read from the Scripture.  But I was influenced forever by the New Testament.  I love the Beatitudes, informing us that the meek shall inherit the earth.

From Matthew 5:1-12:  “When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him.  Then He began to speak, and taught them, saying:”

  • Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  • Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
  • Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
  • Blessed for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
  • Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
  • Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
  • Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
  • Blessed are those who are persecuted  for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  • Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account.
  • Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
