Frosty autumn morning
Sunrise clouded over
Waiting with winter’s breath
Before snow’s promised takeover
Northerly, frigid wind
Few leaves offer cover
Slumbering trees now rest
Under fall’s tattered slipcover
Ground covered in color
Every shade, gold or red
An orange, here and there
Softening nature’s welcome bed
Season’s final page turns
Written with autumn’s hand
Joy never forgotten
Painting inspires love’s motherland
Remembering colors
Recalling every smell
Illustrating patience
Casting each breath of autumn’s spell

Just lovely. I smiled at your use of the word ‘slipcover.’ I don’t hear that word often these days, but it always evokes my grandmother’s house, where every chair and sofa sported a slipcover. Only when certain company was coming were they taken off. Otherwise, they stayed on, perhaps as protection against us children.

Linda, thank you for sharing your memories of using slipcovers. I can remember my paternal grandmother using them. This poem pulled out this reference from many years ago.

Beautiful poem Richard, the colors of autumn are always breathtaking and as winter covers the earth with a blanket of snow the beauty is still all around for us to enjoy God’s creation.
