I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.
The place in which I’ll fit will not exist until I make it.
American-born James A. Baldwin (1924-1987) wrote a variety of works in novels, essays, short stories, and plays. He was also an active participant in the civil rights movement during the 1960s.
I think James Baldwin is right about some people’s fuel and motivation for hate

I agree with the relationship between these two dynamics.

Good insight into hatefulness. I just spent time with my sister and her focus in her life right now is hatred. It’s very sad and makes for a very bitter and angry existence.

James Baldwin wrote during some very turbulent times, and his words are just as revealing today. I know you pray often for your sister, and I join you in praying, too.

I admire James Baldwin. Such a great writer—and with that—insight.

Crystal, thanks for sharing. I have sampled a taste of Baldwin’s writings, but his words apply to our world of today just as they did back in his own turbulent times.
