Fighter’s Will

Bloodied, yet unbowed

Facing another trial

With relentless pursuit

Victory’s quiet exile

Stubborn in spirit

Challenging expected norms

Overwhelmed emotions

Victory’s breath waits to form

Positive outlook

Rising from valley below

Fighter’s will surfaces

Victory’s cherished chateau

Darkness encroaches

Scaling mountain’s lofty peak

Game’s outcome in dire straits

Victory’s voice waits to speak

Lightning’s final strike

Framing improbable run

Overtime’s goal completes

Victory’s cheers, say we won

This poem was inspired from watching a recent high school lacrosse post-season match.  Overcoming the odds, the victorious team fought back to win in overtime.  My granddaughter played an inspiring match, and her steal and goal sealed a sudden victory.

Charles Swindoll Quote

Stop and think.  We’ve no clue as to what will happen one minute from now . . . But our invisible God in His providence, is continually, constantly, and confidently at work.

From Revelation 17:14:  “They will wage war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with Him are called and chosen and faithful.”

Charles Swindoll (born 1934) is an American pastor and Christian author.

William McKinley Quotes

War should never be entered upon until every agency of peace has failed; peace is preferable to war in almost every contingency.

In the time of darkest defeat, victory may be nearest.

William McKinley (1843-1901) was the 25th President of the United States.

Benjamin Harrison Quotes

The bud of victory is always in the truth.

We Americans have no commission from God to police the world.

Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901) was the 23rd American President. He is one of eight Presidents with roots in the state of Ohio.

Monday Memories: Defeating Darkness His Way

From Ephesians 6:10-11:  “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His power.  Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

God’s people under attack

Roaring lion on the prowl

Looking for prey to devour

Evil presence brings a scowl

Days becoming the darkest

Running away from the Lord

But, hope waits like eagles’ wings

Holy Spirit comes aboard

Remaining strong with our Lord

Under His mighty power

Wearing protective armor

God’s Word will carry the hour

Our Father’s righteousness speaks

Spirit with us on this day

Withstanding what evil brings

Defeating darkness His way

Time to witness hope-filled faith

Praying daily for action

Quench evil’s flaming arrows

Calling for man’s retraction

Behind His truth, standing firm

Urging others to repent

Proclaiming Gospel of peace

Our Holy God will relent

From Psalm 85:6-7:  “Will you not revive us again, so that your people may rejoice in you?  Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.”

Destiny’s Greatest Love

From Romans 5:1-2:  “Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.”

Observing man’s life without light

Sending grace from heaven to earth

Darkness to be vanquished outright

Harboring Spirit finds its berth

Witnessing Savior’s final task

Hanging from deadly, Roman tree

Filled with anguish, mercy unmasks

Taking man’s place, evil now flees

Sharing destiny’s greatest love

Bending God’s will upon one Son

Redemption designed from above

Breathing His last, mission now done

Seeing heaven’s eternal light

Descending upon empty tomb

Victory over sin takes flight

Overcoming enemy’s doom

From Romans 5:8-9:  “But God proves His love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.  Much more surely, therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, will we be saved through Him from the wrath of God.”

Giant Taken Down

Photo by RODNAE Productions on Pexels.com

Saturday’s biggest game arrives

Will football’s underdog survive?

Top-ranked team looking much too strong

Winless team plays losing theme song

Jack-rabbit offense can’t wait long

Slow-moving turtle plods along

 Favored team feeling discomfort

Score remains too close for comfort

Game’s undecided final score

Which team will nail victory’s door?

Gridiron classic’s final big play

Winning touchdown fulfills doomsday

Upset scoring with eager hands

Sending shockwaves across this land

Giant’s beanstalk crashes to earth

New winning streak’s star bursting birth

Hearts back-filling with dark despair

Champion no longer game’s bear

Number “One” ranking bites the dust

Closing winning drive comes up bust

Long live football’s newest kingpin

Ending score etched on game’s pigskin

Savior Lives

Conquering darkness

Empty tomb declares

Risen Savior lives

Grace pours out, God cares

Mourning no longer

Calvary’s cross bends

Righteous Savior lives

Love pays dividends

Looking to heavens

Evil crawls away

Faithful Savior lives

God’s Word, final say

Walking in His light

God’s design sustains

Steadfast Savior lives

Never changing lanes

Singing hymns of praise

God’s glory beyond

Blessed Savior lives

Mercy’s lasting bond
