Paul spent himself for one purpose only–that he might win men to Jesus Christ.  Paul became a sacramental personality; wherever he went, Jesus Christ helped Himself to his life.

From 2 Corinthians 12:15:  “I will most gladly spend and be spent for You.  If I love You more, am I to be loved less?”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

The only way to know the strength of God is to take the yoke of Jesus upon us and learn of Him.

From Matthew 11:29:  “Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Burn your bridges behind you, and stand committed to God by your own act . . . make your decisions in the light of the high hour.

From John 12:35-36:  “Jesus said to them, ‘The light is with you for a little longer.  Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you.  If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going.  While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.'”

Faith is not in what Jesus says but in Himself; if we only look at what He says we shall never believe.

From Luke 18:41-43:  “‘What do you want me to do for you?’  He said, ‘Lord, let me see again.’  Jesus said to him, ‘Receive your sight; your faith has saved you.’  Immediately he regained his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, praised God.”

Yielding to Jesus will break every form of slavery in any human life.

From Romans 6:6:  “We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.”

If we only give up something to God because we want more back, there is nothing of the Holy Spirit in our abandonment.

From Mark 10:28:  “Peter began to say to Him [Jesus], ‘Look, we have left everything and followed you.'”

There is no escape when our Lord speaks.  He always comes with an arrestment of the understanding.

From Hebrews 4:12:  “Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

The outstanding characteristic of a Christian is this unveiled frankness before God so that the life becomes a mirror for other lives.

From 2 Corinthians 3:18:  “And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.”

Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leadiing.

From Hebrews 11:8:  “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going.”

Watch God’s cyclones.  The only way God sows His saints is by His whirlwind.  Are you going to prove an empty pod?

From Acts 26:19-20:  “After that, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout the countryside of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and do deeds consistent with repentance.”
