Monday Memories: Lonely Heart

Alone and isolated

Empty calendar pages

Absent family and friends

Life walking in Dark Ages

Hour’s darkest shadows lengthen

Day’s hope missteps and stumbles

Sudden tears, any moment

Faith now tumbles, then crumbles

Day awakens, same old drill

Memories fade, bit by bit

Miles from nowhere, so alone

Silence fills heart, not close-knit

Few good days dwarfed by bad ones

Sunny smiles becoming few

Lonely heart needs titan’s lift

Shining light makes its breakthrough

Make it a point today to reach out to someone who could use a warm hug, a trusting smile, or a kind word.  Lonely hearts fill many people with emptiness; share your light.

Monday Memories: From Her Window

Photo by Andreea Ch on Pexels.com

Peering out from her window

Times changing much, much too fast

Being alone many years

Husband and friends having passed

Small home meets her meager needs

But, the neighborhood has changed

Folks come and go, few she knows

Life blurs by, as if arranged

Sheltered from the outside world

Homebound most days by herself

Family in distant states

Ignored like books on a shelf

Watching some television

Staying away from the news

Remembering old classics

Dreaming of Julie Andrews

Reading occupies her time

Local newspaper connects

Crossword puzzle smiling back

Novels thrill with their suspects

Peering out from her window

Another sunset draws near

Unfamiliar car drives up

Grandchildren bring happy tears

Turning Life’s Page

Living on hidden island

Searching through another day

Overwhelming heartache

Waiting, filled with emptiness

Whispering thoughts, every night

Hearing silence once again

Tears drowning in sorrow

Waiting for new direction

Making one more decision

Holding torch, ready to light

Prepared to burn last bridge

Waiting to strike final match

Listening again, a voice

Growing stronger each minute

Conscience stirs from abyss

Waiting, no longer needed

Turning life’s page, new chapter

Leaving island at long last

Light leads to happiness

Revealing brilliant sunrise

No Longer Alone

From Psalm 31:1-2:  “In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me.  Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily.  Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.”

Life struggles with loneliness

Days without human contact

Isolation grows, lights go dim

Time without purpose, sidetracked

Scorned, rejected, forgotten

Christ also feels all alone

Where have His disciples gone?

Taunted, tortured, overthrown

Holy God always at work

Cries of loneliness, He heeds

Our needs, never glossed over

Spirit moves others to lead

Alone, never life’s last word

Visits from others arrive

Blessed comfort sealed with love

Sustaining light will survive

Darkest loneliness leaving

Empty hearts fill with courage

Father’s love touching each soul

His blessings shall encourage

God’s love remaining steadfast

At death’s cross, Christ not alone

Darkened, empty tomb proclaims

God’s triumph, faith’s cornerstone

From Psalm 31:14-16:  “But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’  My times are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.  Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.”
