Knowing Jesus

From Lamentations 3:55-56:  “I called on Your name, O Lord, from the depths of the pit; You heard my plea, ‘Do not close Your ear to my cry for help, but give me relief!'”

Facing distant horizon

Lingering darkness ahead

Knowing Jesus always hears

Providing His daily bread

Thirsting for living water

Drawing drink from Jacob’s well

Knowing Jesus always hears

Giving thanks, gratefulness swells

Waiting follows each sunset

Rising sunrise, full of hope

Knowing Jesus always hears

Scaling Zion’s mighty slope

Kneeling at Calvary’s cross

Praying for redemption’s seed

Knowing Jesus always hears

Harvesting from tender reed

Seeking His mercy’s comfort

Looking to heavens above

Knowing Jesus always hears

Responding with steadfast love

From Lamentations 3:22-23:  “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

Hope’s Security

From Psalm 1:5-6:  “Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous, for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.”

Time forever witnessed

Gathered in God’s hands

Blessing with His patience

Every minute planned

Given choice of two ways

Passed on wicked’s advice

Choosing God’s righteous path

Grace pays entry’s price

Faith guiding each next step

Called by God to pause

Waiting for His command

Timeless counsel draws

Spirit, water, and blood

Filled with purity

Believing in God’s Son

Hope’s security

Deeply-rooted faith sown

Watered with God’s love

Overcoming darkness

From 1 John 5:6-8:  “This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood.  And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth.  There are three that testify:  the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree.”

One More Onboard

From Hebrews 10:22:  “Let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Morning’s Gentle Spirit

Gray, overcast skies

Precious rain descends

Morning’s gentle spirit

Welcome back dear friend

Time’s hands standing still

Serenity shares

Fine mist of heaven’s grace

View from kitchen chair

Songbirds’ harmony

Nearby thicket sings

Always perfect pitch

Soft feather’s bowstring

Everlasting gift

Calm shower transcends

Sweetness cascading down

Thank you dearest friend

Grateful for this day

Filled with freshest hope

Morning calls, “Come again”

Now, down periscope

Desmond Tutu Quote

Photo by cottonbro studio on Pexels.com

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.

From Psalm 18:28:  “It is You who light my lamp; the Lord, my God, lights up my darkness.”

Desmond Tutu (1931-2021) was a South African Anglican bishop and Christian theologian.  He was perhaps best known for his efforts as a human rights activist in dismantling his nation’s system of apartheid.

Pathway of Righteousness

From Proverbs 10:2:  “Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.”

Footsteps seeking shortcut

Tempted with distractions

Detours filled with wrong turns

Darkness shrouds each transaction

Father’s road forsaken

Evil offers his way

Man’s eagerness to shine

Misguided bypass each day

Pulled away from Father

North, then south . . . now alone

West, then east . . . deeply lost

Next destination . . . unknown

Spirit’s faithfulness breathes

Constant grace, always bright

Jesus walking ahead

Resurrection’s blessed light

Filled with hope’s renewal

Witness of Savior’s peace

Fruits of Spirit descend

Wondrous joy fills every piece

Pathway of righteousness

Obstacles cleared away

Father’s trusted wisdom

Faith’s choices follow His way

From Psalm 23:1-3:  “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.  He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.  He leads me in right paths for His name’s sake.”

Do the best you can with yourself and hope for the best.

In the long run, you make your own luck–good, bad, or indifferent.

Loretta Lynn (1932-2022) was an American country music singer and songwriter.  She was born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky.

Hope’s Voice

From the words of Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher, Oswald Chambers:  “If we think of prayer as the breath in our lungs and the blood from our hearts, we think rightly.”

Photo by Garon Piceli on Pexels.com

Thinking as Jesus taught

Prayer’s breath offers peace

Blood enriched in one’s heart

Light fills faith’s every piece

Spurring each other on

Prayer links faith as one

Devotion encouraged

God sends His blessed Son

Believing Father’s Word

Prayer becomes hope’s voice

Each hour, without ceasing

Shepherd’s flock shall rejoice

Praising Christ for His light

Prayer leads to support

Faithful mercy arrives

Answers sail to each port

Walking always in faith

Prayer fills lungs with joy

Conscious of Savior’s grace

Holy Spirit deploys

From 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:  “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
