With element of mystery

Father’s divine plan evolves

Man imprisoned with transgressions

Faithful mercy shall resolve

Always leading with light of hope

Each treasured gift to embrace

Journey fulfills Father’s glory

Righteousness surrounds man’s space

Topped off with Father’s steadfast love

Filled with purpose in His name

Deliverance as He promised

Spirit igniting faith’s flame

Everything shall work together

Father forgives, lifting man up

Justified by faith, through His grace

Sharing His wisdom close-up

Tomorrow’s appointments scripted

Each written in Father’s hand

Choose to follow His Holy Word

Trusted guidance as He planned

Monday Memories: Defeating Darkness His Way

From Ephesians 6:10-11:  “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His power.  Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Photo by Petr Ganaj on Pexels.com

God’s people under attack

Roaring lion on the prowl

Looking for prey to devour

Evil presence brings a scowl

Days becoming the darkest

Running away from the Lord

But, hope waits like eagles’ wings

Holy Spirit comes aboard

Remaining strong with our Lord

Under His mighty power

Wearing protective armor

God’s Word will carry the hour

Our Father’s righteousness speaks

Spirit with us on this day

Withstanding what evil brings

Defeating darkness His way

Time to witness hope-filled faith

Praying daily for action

Quench evil’s flaming arrows

Calling for man’s retraction

Behind His truth, standing firm

Urging others to repent

Proclaiming Gospel of peace

Our Holy God will relent

Precious River

From John 7:37-38:  “On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, He cried out, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to Me, and let the one who believes in Me drink.’  As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.'”

Resurrection’s eternal light

Enemy’s darkness surrenders

Glory of Christ, forever bright

Holy Spirit’s peace, so tender

Precious river shall always flow

Savior’s grace offers faithful hope

Living water shall never slow

Forgiveness offers mercy’s rope

Come all to witness freedom’s tomb

Believe and each shall receive grace

Light forever shines from this room

Spirit unites this Holy place

From heavenly vision above

Safest harbor rises from dust

Infinite mercy bearing love

Eternity’s river of trust

From Revelation 22:1-3:  “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city.  On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.  Nothing accursed will be found there any more.  But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His servants will worship Him.”

Oswald Chambers Quote

Photo by Ivan Samkov on Pexels.com

There may be any number of things dark to your understanding, but they do not come in between your heart and God.

From John 14:1:  “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Believe in God; believe also in Me”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

Faith Shall Trust

From Habakkuk 2:4:  “Look at the proud!  Their spirit is not right in them, but the righteous live by their faithfulness.”

Too many demands

Fewer precious hours

Life out of control

Darkness set to devour

Light beams from God’s Word

Life’s frantic pace slows

Moment by moment

Steps finding high plateau

Fresh landscape of peace

In God, faith shall trust

Heart fills with new hope

Priorities adjust

Hidden darkness flees

Armor of light worn

God’s grace stretching out

His answers come each morn

Prayer’s conveyance

Journey with God’s love

Freedom at last found

Guidance breathes from above

From Romans 13:12:  “The night is far gone; the day is near.  Let us then throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.”

Monday Memories: Old Man Trouble

From the words of British pastor and theologian, Charles Spurgeon:  “The closer we are to the Shepherd, the safer we are from the wolves.”

Encountering another of life’s setbacks

Visitor from the darkness shouts, “I am back”

Old Man Trouble comes knocking at my front door

Relentless, he desires to even the score

How will I choose to deal with adversity?

His darkness masks the sky over this city

Tackle straight forward what Old Man Trouble brings

Or . . . wait timidly for his continued sting

God’s Word teaches us and brings us hope:

We all live preciously in God’s perfect sight

He gathers us in His loving, Holy might

Past—present—future . . . from the Great I Am

Making it through turbulent seas for each lamb

Through desolate wilderness, God shares a way

Bringing rivers of hope to this life’s gateway

Photo by Nashwan Guherzi on Pexels.com

Looking Old Man Trouble in his doom-filled eyes

With faithful courage, my hope begins to rise

Life waits to see . . . who will finally blink first?

With God’s living water, quenching my parched thirst

Listening, following God’s steadfast handbook

His love will save me with a whole new outlook

Bringing Godly fortitude, when needed most

Old Man Trouble defeated, nothing to boast

From Isaiah 43:2-3:  “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Loretta Lynn Quote

You’ve got to continue to grow, or you’re just like last night’s corn bread–stale and dry.

From Proverbs 9:6:  “Lay aside immaturity and live, and walk in the way of insight.”

Loretta Lynn (1932-2022) was an American country music singer and songwriter.  She was born in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky.

Counting as Joy

From James 1:2-3:  “My brothers and sisters, whenever you face various trials, consider it all joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.”

Maturing in faith

Every doubt erased

Feeling as joy

Father’s grace embraced

Growing every day

Inner self renews

Holding as joy

Spirit standing true

Preparing our way

From 2 Corinthians 4:16-18:  “So we do not lose heart.  Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day.  For our slight, momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen, for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.”
