Future Glory

From Isaiah 6:3:  “And one called to another and said:  ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.'”

Expecting our best

God shall never rest

God’s future glory

Becomes our story

Adopting each child

Life now reconciled

What’s lying ahead?

God’s plan weaves its thread

Life fosters trials

Coming with each mile

His Word, guidance, love

Shining from above

God’s sacred fitness

Our constant witness

Daring to dream now

God’s mercy allows

Caring, righteous Lord

Trusting His accord

Patience encouraged

Waiting with courage

Together working

Blessed networking

Humbleness fills life

Removing all strife

Sowing fertile seeds

Harvest’s bread now feeds

Called by Jesus Christ

His blood sacrificed

Glory fills God’s name

Building each life’s frame

From 1 Corinthians 10:31:  “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.”

Living with Patience

From James 5:11:  “Indeed we call blessed those who showed endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Totally unexpected, overwhelming

Lingering cracks appearing along life’s road

Tripping, stumbling, and finally crashing down

Shattering confidence, from life’s heavy load

Floundering, drowning . . . caught in river’s rapids

Endlessly swimming, lost at pool’s deepest end

Feet never finding firm ground, dour fear arrives

Replacing life’s daylight with night at each bend

Life’s turbulence teaches us lasting patience

With the Lord, with ourselves, and with life’s curve balls

Fumbling life’s slippery game ball once again

God’s love sends patience after every fall

Endurance of Job, life’s journey shall require

Living with patience, frees us from each briar

From Galatians 5:22-25:  “By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  There is no law against such things.  And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.”

Old Man Trouble

From the words of British pastor and theologian, Charles Spurgeon:  “The closer we are to the Shepherd, the safer we are from the wolves.”

Encountering another of life’s setbacks

Visitor from the darkness shouts, “I am back”

Old Man Trouble comes knocking at my front door

Relentless, he desires to even the score

How will I choose to deal with adversity?

His darkness masks the sky over this city

Tackle straight forward what Old Man Trouble brings

Or . . . wait timidly for his continued sting

God’s Word teaches us and brings us hope:

We all live preciously in God’s perfect sight

He gathers us in His loving, Holy might

Past—present—future . . . from the Great I Am

Making it through turbulent seas for each lamb

Through desolate wilderness, God shares a way

Bringing rivers of hope to this life’s gateway

Looking Old Man Trouble in his doom-filled eyes

With faithful courage, my hope begins to rise

Life waits to see . . . who will finally blink first?

With God’s living water, quenching my parched thirst

Listening, following God’s steadfast handbook

His love will save me with a whole new outlook

Bringing Godly fortitude, when needed most

Old Man Trouble defeated, nothing to boast

From Isaiah 43:2-3:  “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.  For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Life’s New Page

From Ephesians 4:31-32:  “Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.”

Life’s battered bucket sometimes overflows

Facing daily challenges, too immense

One challenge standing apart from the rest

Using forgiveness seems much too intense

Our righteous Father teaches forgiveness

Extending His mercy through earnest hearts

Breathe every truth in its entirety

Receiving His grace with humble hearts

Take in God’s Word, His Holy Commandments

Burying bitterness, it lifts the heart

Always best to forgive, forget, move on

Beating with freedom’s light, opens the heart

As humans, reacting much too quickly

Expressing heated anger, fixing blame

Slow to forgive, even more to forget

Stepping now with humbleness, drowns the flames

No longer in the enemy’s darkness

Praying the sun does not set on one’s rage

With our Lord’s truth, filling with righteousness

Following God’s way, life writes a new page

From the words of American pastor and Christian author, Jim Cymbala:  “Looking back over my life, all I can see is mercy and grace written in large letters everywhere.  May God help me have the same kind of heart toward those who wound or offend me.”

Suffering No More

Reading from Psalm 38, one finds David’s words as he asks for God’s healing.  This poem’s verses bring to the forefront an active voice with feeling, praying, finding, healing, praising, and seeing.

Feeling darkness

Feeling unknown

Feeling empty

Feeling alone

Praying with faith

Praying this Psalm

Praying for hope

Praying for calm

Finding God’s love

Finding what’s heard

Finding new life

Finding His Word

Healing these wounds

Healing this soul

Healing my heart

Healing me whole

Praising Father

Praising accords

Praising heavens

Praising my Lord

Seeing the Cross

Seeing the light

Seeing Christ’s love

Seeing God’s might

From Psalm 38:15:  “But it is for you, O Lord, that I wait; it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.”

Choices Through Faith

From the words of American pastor and Christian evangelist, Vance Havner:  “Life is a series of choices between the bad, the good, and the best.  Everything depends on how we choose.”

Our daily walk encounters many tests

Life’s decisions shall never be easy

Facing a series of heartfelt choices

Sometimes feeling so alone and uneasy

Quality decisions lead life forward

God’s Word and righteousness always shining

Making choices, pleasing to our Father

Our Lord’s love, His sacred silver lining

God chooses our Savior—His Holy Son

Jesus becomes our faithful source of life

Bringing lasting redemption to ourselves

Hope-filled Cross saving the foolish from strife

Our Father calls many, few are chosen

His chosen, precious cornerstone—Jesus

Believing in Him, never put to shame

Living by faith through our Lord, who frees us

Jesus chooses us in His Father’s name

Days ahead offer bounties of treasures

Following His love and wealth of teachings

Therefore, bear lasting fruit through His measures

From 2 Corinthians 5:6-7:  “So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord–for we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Speaking to Thee

This short poem is inspired from two different hymns:  “Lord, Speak to Me, That I May Speak” and “I Love to Tell the Story.”

Telling His true story

Jesus, His glory reigns

Unseen, heaven above

Breaking sinful chains

Hungering and thirsting

Weary, endless despair

Message of Salvation

Answering these prayers

Firm rock, speaking to thee

Living echoes of hope

Children, lost and alone

Faith walking life’s tightrope

Hidden depths, troubled sea

Precious wisdom fills thee

Hearing His glowing words

Loving hand calms the sea

One of my favorite hymns is “Earth and All Stars” which we sang many times at my former church in Montana.  Here is a link for the hymn:

Do you have a favorite hymn (an old favorite or a more current one)?  Let’s have a discussion in the comments.

Thomas a Kempis Quote

To say that I am made in the image of God is to say that love is the reason for my existence, for God is love.

From 1 John 4:15-16:  “God abides in those who confess that Jesus is the Son of God, and they abide in God.  So we have known and believe the love that God has for us.”

Bill Bright Quote

Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.

From 1 John 4:7:  “Little children, let no one deceive you.  Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous.”
