Studs Terkel Quotes

I have come across ordinary people who have done extraordinary things.

We’re born to live.  One is a realist if one hopes.

Louis “Studs” Terkel (1912-2008) was an American writer, historian, and radio broadcaster.  His work in gathering oral histories of common Americans was recognized as one of his most well-received projects.  He received the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction.

In its given time and space, worship music opens our hearts and minds to praise God.

Charles Kingsley Quote

Photo by Israel Torres on Pexels.com

Music has been called the speech of the angels; I will go farther and call it the speech of God himself.

From Psalm 29:3-4:  “The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over mighty waters.  The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”

Charles Kingsley (1819-1875) was an English-born pastor who also shared his thoughts and actions as a historian, poet, novelist, and social reformer.

New season dawning

Reaching out for change

Darkness now leaving

Feeling fresh exchange

Transitions welcome

Embracing hope’s light

Every new blessing

Welcoming headlights

Tomorrow waiting

Catching future’s scent

Morning shares rebirth

Gathering ascent

New landscape ahead

Moving from home base

Confidence growing

Walking with bold pace

This season finished

Looking for next one

Each day holds promise

Enjoying life’s run

There will be times when we may need to use a life pause to reflect upon how far our journey has really come.

Mary Oliver Quotes

Photo by Mustafa Karabu00f6rklu00fc on Pexels.com

Instructions for living a life.  Pay attention.  Be astonished.  Tell about it.

In this universe we are given two gifts:  the ability to love and the ability to question.  Which are, at the same time, the fires that warm us and the fires that scorch us.

Mary Oliver (1935-2019) was a best-selling American poet, who received many honors for her work.  Her love of nature can be found in much of her writing, and it resulted in honors from the National Book Award in 1992 and Pulitzer Prize in 1984.

Focused on Christ

From Philippians 2:3-4:  “Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.  Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others.”

Encouragement in Christ

Sharing love-filled grace

Witnessing humility

Heart’s very special place

Of one mind with Jesus

Sharing selfless love

Caring first, for others’ needs

Led by Spirit above

Every breath mirrors Christ

Sharing mercy’s joy

Walking with unselfish thoughts

Honest actions deploy

Each step follows Jesus

Sharing Spirit’s light

Taking obedient path

Humbleness guides faith’s sight

Always focused on Christ

Sharing fresh outlook

Living within dignity

Tomorrow’s quiet brook

From Philippians 2:14-15:  “Do all things without murmuring and arguing, so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine like stars in the world.”

There can be no greater human love for us to experience than to serve others with humility.
