Half-empty coffee cup
Hoping to find something
Peering down, never up
Searching darkened nothing
“Seinfeld” gathers awards
Endless shows with nothing
Jerry’s name on billboards
He’s caught on to something
Writing with empty words
Dreams filling with something
Missing all the keywords
Amounting to nothing
Scanning digital files
Words lost, dreading nothing
Writer facing trials
Mining life for something
Photo on dusty perch
Triggers newfound something
Memories begin search
Looking beyond nothing
Nothing pursues something
Something subdues nothing

The American sitcom “Seinfeld” entertained viewers for nine years with the creative humor of comedian Jerry Seinfeld. With a setting in New York City, the cast featured regulars Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards. The success of the show has often been referenced to a “show about nothing.”
Here is a short clip from the show, featuring Jerry Seinfeld with guest star Brad Garrett. The scene is titled “You barely know your car.”

Your mention of Seinfeld sent me digging through my collection of business cards. A woodworker I knew made a fake business card that he shared with some of us. After his name, it says “The Yacht Nazi.” Then, it includes these lines: “Where the customer is the chump. I come when I want. You pay what I tell you.”
Needless to say, he never gave it to a customer, but it caused great hilarity among the dock worker crowd.

Linda, thanks so much for sharing the words of the “Yacht Nazi.” Yes, I can remember the “Soup Nazi” on Seinfeld. We need moments to pause, smile, laugh, and reflect.

I must admit that back in the day, I was a frequent flyer as a weekly viewer of
“Seinfeld.”

Only the words of God last forever, but I will admit if you say the word “Seinfeld” I immediately picture him and some of his cast members. Funny show with mostly clean humor.

Vickie, I appreciate your thoughts. Sometimes my journey as a writer takes me to a different perspective in creating a particular poem or short story.
