What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. (taken from the hymn, “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus”)
From 1 John 1:7: “But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Robert Lowry (1826-1899) was an American preacher as well as an acclaimed hymn writer. One of his most revered hymns is “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus.” It was written in 1876, and it has been sung by many contemporary gospel singers.
An old hymn that we used to sing frequently but now our church has moved to only choruses. When we visit our daughter’s church in PA, they still have and use a hymnal and we sang this song during our last visit there last summer.

Vickie, you were blessed to sing this hymn. It has been quite awhile since I have sung it. My Sunday worship music generally revolves around more contemporary tastes, but I miss the hymns.

I agree with you. This hymn and many of the other more traditional ones bring so much comfort and peace. I am sorry for missing your comment, and being much too late in replying to it.

I haven’t listened to it for awhile so the hymn’s lyrics were a blessing.

I do as well. Hymns such as this one are richly and deeply coated with the Gospel.
