The dearest friend on earth is a mere shadow compared to Jesus Christ.

From John 15:15:  “I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing, but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father.”

Oswald Chambers (1874-1917) was a Scottish evangelist and Christian teacher.  Following his death from an illness while in Egypt during World War I, his wife took on the task of transcribing the detailed notes she had written from his lectures and sermons.  Gertrude Hobbs Chambers’ efforts resulted in the publication in 1924 of MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST.  I frequently read from this devotional, and it has greatly deepened my faith and understanding of God’s Word.

If you will give God your right to yourself, He will make a holy experiment out of you.  God’s experiments always succeed.

From Romans 12:1-2:  “I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God’s mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship.  Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

There is nothing more difficult than to ask.  We will long and desire and crave and suffer, but not until we are at the extreme limit will we ask.

From Luke 11:10:  “For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Has it ever dawned on you that you are responsible for other souls spiritually before God?  For instance, if I allow any private deflection from God in my life, everyone about me suffers.  We “sit together in heavenly places.”

From Romans 14:7-9:  “For we do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves.  If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.  For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.”

So we are to live and move and have our being in God, to look at everything in relation to God, because the abiding consciousness of God pushes itself to the front all the time.

From Psalm 25:12:  “Who are they who fear the LordHe will teach them the way that they should choose.”

There may be any number of things dark to your understanding, but they do not come in between your heart and God.

From John 14:1:  “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Believe in God; believe also in Me”

If we think of prayer as the breath in our lungs and the blood from our hearts, we think rightly.

From 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18:  “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

“God is our Refuge”–nothing can come through that shelter.

From Psalm 31:3-4:  “You are indeed my rock and my fortress; for Your name’s sake lead me and guide me; take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for You are my refuge.”

Trust entirely in God, and when He brings you to the venture, see that you take it.

From Isaiah 12:2:  “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and will not be afraid, for the Lord is my strength and my might; He has become my salvation.”
