Think Again
Dressing in layers
Furnace running at top speed—
Now, who loves winter?

Any Day Now
Kitchen’s window view
Yard’s relentless, frozen scene—
Calendar says “Spring”

Finally!
Welcomed arrival
Spring bursting with treasured breath—
Red robin flies in

Somehow, it doesn’t seem that winter is over. Not with the winter storms that are coming to many areas, including the Far North in the sub-Arctic, where I live. It will be a while before the snow melts.

I understand. I hope the final pages of winter go as quickly as possible for you. Here in central Ohio, we saw a Monday filled with snow and more cold. Tomorrow mild temps and rain arrive.

In Interior Alaska, we have had -60 F to -20 F or big snow storms dumping several feet of snow. It was about -40 F early this morning and warmed up to about -15 F. We get more daylight every day but it is still very cold. Since November it has been in the negative temperatures. But the increasing light makes it easier. The snow will leave in early May. It sounds cold for Ohio. Trust you are staying warm.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been living in Ohio for about 18 years, and this winter reminded me of some of my native state’s winters in Montana. But, I have never experienced a prolonged winter such as yours. Peace be with you.

Yes, the winter is long. This one has been cold for long periods of time. Thank you.

I’m not so fond of our hurricanes and tropical storms, but I must say that, at this time of year, I’m glad I’m watching flowers bloom and trees leaf out rather than getting even more cold and snow.

Linda, you are blessed this time of year. Your recent posts are a testament to the arrival of spring in Texas.

We had a few days of false Spring here but it will be a while yet before we can dig ourselves out from this. lol Loved your haikus!

Yes, some parts of the country are still digging out. We found plenty of snow at our doorstep several weeks ago, but one can see spring’s fingers painting just a bit.

Please stop hogging all the cold. Send some my way. We’re hitting the 90s, which means the A/C will be operating. Not ready!

Judy, I wish I could help you out. We’ve been experiencing more of winter’s wind chill. I need to track down the glacier that keeps feeding the wind.

Nancy, I’ve probably written enough about winter. Embracing a springtime theme seems right as the first official day of of the season is a couple of weeks away plus some change.

Loved that first haiku, especially the last line: “Now who loves winter?” 😁 I’ve probably said it here before, but after 40 years in Florida putting up with stifling heat and humidity, I’m happy to be in the Midwest–even in wintertime (although we live in the more southern reaches of this region). Last week it was warm enough that I actually sat on the deck in the afternoon and must have heard 10-12 different birds, according to my Merlin APP. Today I’m bundled in my layers–indoors–but no less content. I do love winter–as long as the furnace keeps running!

Nancy, I appreciate your reflections. I’ve been in those same places with my years of living in Montana and later in Ohio. For the first time, I experienced a rough ‘n tumble winter in the Buckeye state.

Ah, it is coming. We endured one more day of snow and cold, but the rest of the week looks rainy and warm. Is March fast forwarding to April?
