When God is going to do a wonderful thing, He begins with a difficulty. When He is going to do a very wonderful thing, He begins with an impossibility.

From Psalm 46:1-3: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.”

Charles Inwood (1851-1928) was an English-born pastor who spent 30 years in itinerant ministry with missionary work on five continents.

Sustaining Refuge

From Psalm 31:1-2: “In you, O Lord, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in Your righteousness deliver me. Incline Your ear to me; rescue me speedily. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.”

Facing life’s overwhelming odds

Darkness invades, hope crashing down

Searching for sustaining refuge

Forsaking another showdown

Emptiness penetrates deeply

Faith weakening, now feeling mocked

Each empty promise calling out

Distant future forever locked

Calling to Father above

Reaching for His righteous-filled hand

Praying for heavenly rescue

Grasping mercy, fleeing quicksand

Light overcomes evil’s doomsday

God’s promises, always to trust

Mighty fortress restoring faith

Distant future looking robust

From Psalm 31:14-15: “But I trust in You, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.”

Monday Memories: God is Near

From Psalm 16:11: “You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

God dwells on a Holy hill

Pursuing those hungry, for His will

Away from God, we are forlorn

Seeking refuge, asking to be reborn

Our Lord is a most Holy God

Bringing blessings and love, He nods

He brings delight, for another week

Filling cups with refreshment, we seek

At night, He calms our hearts

Giving wise counsel, new day starts

God remains near, always beside us

Walking patiently, without a big fuss

He stays close, offering His hand

Facing our challenges, across this land

God fills hearts, with joyful gladness

We sing and rejoice, without sadness

Our prayers seek a willing ear

Finding a Holy God, without fear

Our footing will never slip away

Walking a safe path, God’s way

God hears our words and prayers

Sending answers, because He truly cares

Under the shadow of God’s wings

Protecting us, safe refuge He brings

As never before in this generation, we realize that we are dependent upon God for protection and strength. Our resolve is firm because our refuge is based on the eternal foundation of the living God.

From 2 Timothy 2:19: “But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Let everyone who calls on the name of the Lord turn away from wickedness.'”

Help in Trouble

Drowning in sinfulness

Darkness covers this land

Needing help in trouble

God reaches out His hand

Facing our transgressions

Mighty hand bringing grace

Saving us, all alone

God tapping life’s backspace

Sending love through His Son

Refuge found in one cross

Squashing dark’s empty hope

God triggers evil’s loss

Leaning on His wisdom

Strength flows from His power

Living with righteousness

God rebuilds faith’s tower

Knowing we walk with Him

Lord’s armor covers thee

Praying in Christ’s spirit

God’s mercy sets us free

From Ephesians 6:13: Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on the evil day and, having prevailed against everything, to stand firm.”
