Alone and isolated
Empty calendar pages
Absent family and friends
Life walking in Dark Ages
Hour’s darkest shadows lengthen
Day’s hope missteps and stumbles
Sudden tears, any moment
Faith now tumbles, then crumbles
Day awakens, same old drill
Memories fade, bit by bit
Miles from nowhere, so alone
Silence fills heart, not close-knit
Few good days dwarfed by bad ones
Sunny smiles becoming few
Lonely heart needs titan’s lift
Shining light makes its breakthrough

Make it a point today to reach out to someone who could use a warm hug, a trusting smile, or a kind word. Lonely hearts fill many people with emptiness; share your light.

This is so beautiful Richard, as I read this words what comes to my mind is my daughter Victoria who is chronically ill because many friends have walked out of her life because of being terminally ill, she has always been there for others and when she needs someone to reach out to her no one does. Outside of me and her sister there is no one else. I pray that someone would reach out to her because depression is taking a hold on her.

Through Jesus, my daily prayers lift up Victoria to our heavenly Father. May His presence bring peace to Victoria.

Thank you for your prayers for my daughter, at the moment she is not doing well, she has two infections and her pain is unbearable

Thank you for these words, Richard. As I’ve been trying to get back on my feet after a bout of pneumonia, I’ve been holding a pity party for myself. Why do we always feel so alone when we get sick or problems assail? God is always there, but it’s easy to forget sometimes.

Dora, I appreciate your kind words. When I wrote this poem in early 2021, memories of family who were dealing with loneliness fueled the desire to bring it to fruition.

Good reminder to keep in touch with widows, single moms and service members far from home. Those are a few of the groups that I know must suffer from loneliness. Sending a card is nice, a phone call is better, but a visit is best of all.

Vickie, thank you for sharing these precious observations. I’ve witnessed family who have dealt with the darkness of loneliness. Phone calls and visits bring much needed light.
