Jan, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I used to coach basketball, and I always enjoyed reading about John Wooden. As much as he was revered as a coach, he was also an outstanding poet and philosopher.

No, I didn’t know that. My husband met John Wooden back in the late 60’s when the UCLA basketball team was practicing … and Lou Alcindor was shooting free throws. Memorable indeed! They won the championship undefeated for the 6th year in a row! But, that was all we knew about Wooden, who had a highly revered reputation.
